  • Ad Hoc Committee on Graduate Advising and Mentoring

    The Ad Hoc Committee on Graduate Advising and Mentoring’s primary aim was to deliver a strategic plan to guide policies and programs to be implemented at MIT. A central component of MIT’s graduate education is the opportunity for students to learn from and model their faculty mentors. Excellence in graduate student mentoring and advising is a fundamental responsibility of our faculty and fosters innovation and scholarship. Programs and policies that support faculty and students in this regard are essential to the Institute’s mission.

    The committee was formed in spring 2021 and released its final report in April 2023. Read the Strategic Plan for Graduate Advising and Mentoring.

  • Ad Hoc Committee on Online Continuing and Professional Education

    The Ad Hoc Committee on Online Continuing and Professional Education (OCPE) was charged by the provost and academic deans to investigate the landscape of MIT OCPE offerings and to provide recommendations regarding how to improve MIT’s OCPE effectiveness and impact.

  • Ad Hoc Working Group on Free Expression

    The Ad Hoc Working Group on Free Expression was charged with reviewing MIT’s statements on free expression, recommending changes as needed, reviewing input from MIT stakeholders, devising scenarios to illustrate their recommendations, and suggesting principles and processes for decision making.

    The group was formed in February 2022 and released its final report in September 2022. Read the Report of the MIT Ad Hoc Working Group on Free Expression.

  • Values Statement Committee

    To build a sense of shared purpose, expectations, and accountability, the MIT Values Statement Committee engaged the MIT community in the foundational work of developing a statement of shared values. Comprising staff, faculty, students, postdocs, and alumni, the committee sought to create a statement grounded in universal ideals but also speaking to MIT’s distinctive character and culture.

    The committee received its charge in December 2020 and issued its final report in April 2022. Read the Values Statement Committee Final Report.
